Writing Project Reflection

I don’t think I will ever finish this project; every day there is something relevant to this issue in the news. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every step to this project. It began slow and confusing, but I am very satisfied with the end product. The research aspect of this project was the most interesting part for me, which I thoroughly enjoyed and suspect I might wish to pursue a career in this area. At the very least I know I will be able to utilize the tools and techniques I have learned in during the course of this class and this project. I wanted to include the labor statistics tables and the campaign contribution tables because they helped provide additional substance and information to solidify the information they referenced in the paper. Following MLA standards meant including the actual table in document, however, the size of these tables helped to increase the size of the document. Personally, I disagree with this and feel that the way I included the website should have been enough considering the size of the table. But what do I know?

In the news tonight regarding the H-1B Visa Program were three studies conducted independently by Harvard, University of Wisconsin, and a non profit Urban Institute, each of which concluded that the high technology industry data and statistics are absolutely incorrect and we do not need to increase the H-1B Visa Program. These studies found that since 1999 the United States has graduated 435,000 math, science and computer technology bachelor, master and doctoral degrees each year. Many of whom have chosen not to pursue careers in the fields of their degrees. So maybe my research question should have been – Why are the presidents of high technology corporations continuing to lie about the available labor force in the United States?
